Meet Zahrouni - A PSU Champion!

“I have learned a lot of skills in decision making, which will help me for a lifetime.”

Zahrouni is a young Somali woman, in her early twenties. Zahrouni has a passion for education and her personal mission of going to university before she reaches twenty-two.  What really is special about her is her fight for having the same opportunity as the opposite gender.  Zahrouni once said, “ I know for sure girls are strong, oh, even stronger than male sometimes!”

The Project Stand Up (PSU) Champion Education Program was designed by youth for youth to provide a fun and valuable learning experience. PSU’s vision is to see more young people, particularly girls, speak up and participate in decision making and initiating solutions to issues that matter most to them.  We call them Champions!

Two months prior to our Champion recruitment Zahrouni come to Malaysia seeking a better life and better education, and she had made a grand entrance to our project and by surpassing all the requirements she was welcomed as a PSU Champion.

At the beginning of the program,  Zahrouni said 

“I never thought there was such a group of people who are having the same ideas with me I really think this is a dream sometimes.  All my life I was trying to find a place where I am being treated equally with others despite age or gender difference and an environment where I can share my ideas and thoughts without thinking twice of what I will say as a young girl. In PSU I found my crazy impossible ideas and dream come to life, PSU is every girl's dream. 

PSU gives me the opportunity to network with different people from different fields of professionalism.  Which their skills and experience help me make better decision making for my day to day life and future plan. Now after the program of 3 months, I have learned a lot of skills in decision making, which will help me for a lifetime.”
